It's on the list. Not in the mild half of it either. Can B12 shots cause headaches? MedlinePlus puts headache with the symptoms it tells patients to call a doctor about right away, not with the ones you watch and wait on. It's uncommon. We still want a Tulsa client who gets one after a visit to make that call and to tell us.
We list our sources at the bottom so you can check us.
MedlinePlus, the drug reference the National Library of Medicine writes for patients, sorts the effects of a cyanocobalamin injection into two piles. The first pile is small and ordinary. Then the page changes tone: Some side effects can be serious. What follows is the sentence that matters to anybody reading this at midnight with a headache: The following symptoms are uncommon, but if you experience any of them, call your doctor immediately:
Headache sits in that run of items, between leg pain and dizziness: headache, dizziness, red skin color, especially on the face, hives, rash, itching, difficulty breathing or swallowing. The same list opens with muscle weakness, cramps, or pain, leg pain, extreme thirst, frequent urination, confusion. None of those are things anybody expects from a vitamin, which is why the page bundles them and tells you not to wait them out. Uncommon means most people never feel any of it. Immediately means don't sleep on it if you do. So if your head starts pounding after a shot, the next move is a phone call, not a search bar. We'd rather lose an hour of your evening to that call than have you sit on it until morning.
Neither page says so, and we won't invent a reason. On amount, the filed label is one flat line: No overdosage has been reported with this drug. It explains nothing about headaches. Nothing on either page does, and a nurse who tells you otherwise is guessing.
One number on the label actually helps you sort out a headache. The same filing says how fast the vitamin moves: Cyanocobalamin is quantitatively and rapidly absorbed from intramuscular and subcutaneous sites of injection, and the plasma level of the compound reaches its peak within one hour after intramuscular injection. One hour. Not a slow build over a week. The pages stop there and so do we. That number is still worth having when you're trying to reconstruct what else happened that day.
Tell your nurse in the room.
She writes it down and it stays on your chart. A physician reads that chart before anything runs the next time you book. MedlinePlus is plain about the rest: Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication. Your own doctor can put hands on you and look at the whole picture. We can't do that from a living room, and a text thread has never been a physical exam. So the ask is boring and we'll make it anyway. Call, then tell us what they said so we can work inside it.
Our safety standards page covers what happens when the answer comes back as not today. Screening questions take about two minutes, and every visit includes a physician consult before the infusion runs, which is the part new clients tell us they did not expect. A registered nurse places and watches every line. Tiffany spent 8 years at hospital bedsides and still asks about the things people think are too small to mention. A headache after an earlier shot is not too small to mention.
The B12 shot on a first visit is free, which is why this question tends to come from first timers. From then on the injections are $25 apiece, B12, Zofran or vitamin D, and the add-on is listed that way on every page of the menu. Simply Hydrate at $99 all in is a liter of fluids with nothing added to it, so it has the fewest moving parts if you want to watch how your body takes an injection by itself. Nothing extra turns up at the door.
Broken Arrow is among the cities we cover most, and clients there usually have the nurse come to the house, though a weekday visit at the office is ordinary too. That matters here for one reason. The person you tell about a headache is the person who was standing next to you. Her three busiest bags in Broken Arrow are Cellular Reset at $215, Hangover Helper at $179 and Energy and Hydrate at $199, and the B12 can go with any of them. For the vitamin itself, what it does and who tends to run short, we wrote a longer piece on the B12 shot in Tulsa.
This is teaching, not a diagnosis. A vitamin injection supports hydration and how you feel. It isn't medical treatment and it doesn't stand in for the provider who knows your history. If somebody is already managing something for you, or there are prescriptions in the cabinet, that conversation happens there first and you bring us the answer.
